Introduction: in recent years the scientific community has shown particular interest in investigation of the management of pain in patients with chronic kidney disease (cKD) undergoing haemodialysis. Aim: to test the psychometric properties of the Greek version of the Pain Self-efficacy Questionnaire in patients undergoing haemodialysis. Method: a sample of 50 patients with cKD undergoing haemodialysis in two dialysis units in the Peloponnese region completed the questionnaire twice within one month during the period May-June 2013. the Greek version includes 10 questions of english original questionnaire. for data analysis the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS0, v. 13.0 was used. Results: the reliability of the Greek version of the questionnaire was excellent (cronbach’s α=0.977 in two tests). Pearson’s correlation coefficient and coefficient icc revealed extremely high correlation between the responses on the two administrations of the questionnaire (r=0.997; p<0.001 and icc=0.997; p<0.001). Conclusions: the Greek version of the Pain Self-efficacy Questionnaire is a reliable assessment tool for pain management in patients undergoing dialysis and can be used for other patient groups. the use of the specific tool in a larger sample of patients under haemodialysis and in patients with kidney disease undergoing peritoneal dialysis will be of great importance.
