Sexual behavior and adolscents

Sexual behaviour of adolescents can be characterized either as landmark of their physiologic development or as field of dangerous behaviour. After reviewing studies, we summarise that knowledge of young persons in Greece in subjects that concern contraception, familial planning and sexually transmitted diseases is insufficient, contrary to young persons of abroad, where they appear more informed. Parallel, young persons of Greece have as main source of information their friends, while young people of other countries have their school. The young persons appear not to discuss with their parents and their professors about these subjects and their complete briefing essential is judged. As long as it concerns their behaviour we observe that in the Scandinavian countries girls are more experienced and sexually active than boys while in the Mediterranean countries we observe the opposite. Also, both in national and international level young persons prefer natural and traditional methods of contraception and choose in smaller percentage the modern methods. All these differentiations observed in different periods and regions make imperative the need of continuous depiction of knowledge, attitudes and behaviours of young persons on issues referring to contraception, aiming at the application of effective sexual education programs.
