Abstract

This article is an attempt to examine and further investigate the role of the school nurse in the Unified Special Vocational High Schools of our country. A relatively new institution for the Greek school reality. New, on one hand, but imperative, as its contribution is decisive and has essential importance in special education secondary school units as through the implementation of educational practices the school nurse can ensure the individual and public health. The school nurse, Not only cares to provide immediate care to students in need, but, also contributes with his/her knowledge and skills to protection and assurance of the physical and mental integrity of students, as well as it leads to an increase in academic performance of the last ones. Taking into account all the above factors, we will try to investigate bibliographically the role and importance of the school nurse in school structures, especially in special secondary education schools. Also, through the presentation of the legislative framework as determined by the relevant Government Gazettes, the presentation of the pre-requisite skills of the school nurse within the modern, constantly changing educational environment will follow. Finally, the relevant conclusions of the theoretical review will follow.
