Intercultural Nursing-Necessity in Nursing Education
Abstract
Introduction: Intercultural nursing is a rapidly growing and very important field of study and practice, while the
multicultural character of most modern societies makes the need for education in intercultural care imperative.
Purpose: This work attempts to highlight the need for Intercultural Education of Nursing students and other Health
and Social Sciences as well as the training of health professionals in Intercultural Care in the context of continuing
education. Material and Method: A literature review of relevant articles was conducted in the Medline / Pubmed
and Google Scholar electronic databases as well as in books, scientific journals and web pages with index words:
intercultural nursing, intercultural competence, intercultural nursing education. Results: The literature is full of
studies on the need for training in Intercultural Nursing Care. It is pointed out that the education in Intercultural
Nursing contributes on the one hand to the acquaintance and familiarization of the trainees with other cultures
and on the other hand to the acquisition of cultural competence, sensitivity, and ability of the trainees to interpret
caring behaviors within a cultural context.
