Clinical Αssessment of Quality of Life in Patients with Breast Cancer

Introduction: Breast cancer remains nowadays the most common type of cancer in women. It is associated with the presence of physical, psychological and other symptoms due to the disease and the required treatments and has a significant effect on their quality of life. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the most commonly available tools for assessing the quality of life of breast cancer patients. Material and Method: A bibliographic review was conducted in Greek and English on the Medline, Scopus, Science Direct and Google Scholar databases using the keywords: "breast cancer", "quality of life" and "assessment scales". Results: Systematic assessment of quality of life of breast cancer patients is an important nursing care process. It requires trained health professionals and widespread use of appropriate assessment scales. The choice of the appropriate of quality of life assessment scale is influenced by many factors, such as the disease, the type of treatment, the complexity of the questionnaire. Conclusions: Through many years of research, valuable, reliable and specialized breast cancer assessment scales have been developed to improve the quality of care provided.
